RTU ranked among world's top 1,000 universities

RIGA - Riga Technical University (RTU) has been ranked among the world's top 1,000 universities, according to data from the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026.

Over the past year, RTU has risen from the 1,001st-1,200th range to the 801st-1,000th range. The university’s score has improved in all five evaluated categories.

The other Latvian universities included in the ranking are not ranked higher than 1,001st place. The University of Latvia (LU) has maintained its position in the 1,001st-1,200th range, while Riga Stradins University (RSU) has moved up to 1,201st-1,400th range. The Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) is ranked below 2,001st place.

The universities have shown improvements in several categories. RSU and LU have seen their rankings rise in four categories. Meanwhile, LBTU’s scores have improved in three categories - research environment, research quality, and international outlook - but have dropped in the categories of teaching and industry collaboration.

The universities’ performance was rated highest in the international outlook category, where the score of each university is its highest across all categories. RTU and RSU performed best in this category, scoring 71.2 and 66.8 points, respectively. All four universities saw their scores improve in this category.

A total of 2,297 universities were evaluated in this year’s ranking. Oxford University received the highest overall rating, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in second place, while Princeton University and Stanford University tied for third.
