Romans Vanags to head artistic council of next Song and Dance Celebration

RIGA - Choir conductor Romans Vanags has been elected head of the artistic council of Latvia’s XXVII Nationwide Song and XVII Dance Celebration, Lana Kazlauskiene, a representative of the National Culture Center, informed LETA.

Vanags was unanimously elected head of the artistic council at its first meeting, which took place on Thursday. Martins Klisans, chairman of the Song and Dance Celebration council, nominated Vanags for the position, pointing his artistic and organizational experience which is essential for preparing the event.

Zanda Murniece was elected vice chairperson of the artistic council.

According to the law, the artistic council of the Song and Dance Celebration is made up of experts and representatives of municipal cultural centers and nongovernmental organizations. The council is tasked with taking care of the Song and Dance Celebration’s artistic quality and take decisions on creative and artistic matters.
