RIGA - Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) is in quarantine after meeting with Slovenian counterpart Anze Logar who has tested positive for Covid-19 after his tour of the three Batic states, Rinkevics said on Twitter.
"We are in touch with the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC). Since I am identified as a contact, I will be in quarantine, performing my duties remotely," the foreign minister tweeted.
Foreign Ministry press sekretary Janis Bekeris has posted a similar tweet, as he too was a member of the Latvian delegation hosting the Slovenian foreign minister and his delegation. Since Bekeris is also identified as a contact, he will be quarantining and working remotely.
Logar was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Friday, just after his visits to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, the minister's office informed. The Slovenian minister has no symptoms of the coronavirus disease.
After Covid-19 incidence in Slovenia has more than doubled in recent weeks, a nationwide quarantine has been declared in the country, effective as of Saturday.
