RIGA - Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics, in a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, has reaffirmed Latvia's support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and struggle against Russia's aggression.
Rinkevics writes in a post on Facebook that in the telephone conversation with the Ukrainian president, he informed him about Latvia's planned military and civilian support to Ukraine in 2026. The two presidents also discussed the peace negotiation process.
Rinkevics reiterated his support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, security, and sovereignty, as well as for the diplomatic efforts of Ukraine, the US, and Europe to end the war.
As reported, Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump on Sunday and after the talks announced that the peace plan for the Ukraine-Russia war is 90 percent agreed and that US security guarantees are fully agreed.
Exactly what will be included in these guarantees has not been publicly revealed. At the same time, the two presidents pointed out that the territorial ownership of the Donbas region remains unresolved.
According to the RBC-Ukraine website on Monday, in his talks with Trump, Zelensky sought security guarantees for Ukraine for a period of 30 to 50 years.
