RIGA - Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) emphasized the close bilateral political and security cooperation between the two countries in the US Congress, LETA was informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In Washington DC yesterday, Rinkevics met with Tom Kean, chairman of the Europe Subcommittee of the US Congressional Foreign Affairs Committee.
The officials discussed the bilateral relations between Latvia and the United States, the past and future support of both countries to Ukraine in the war against Russia, as well as current issues of international relations.
Rinkevics and Kean discussed the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia emphasized that the current strengthening of the US military presence in Latvia is invaluable.
During the meeting, Rinkevics informed about Latvia's support to Ukraine so far, as well as the two sides exchanged opinions on the current security situation in the region, as well as the situation in Moldova and Belarus.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs invited Congressman Kean to visit Latvia.
