RIGA - Municipal transport company Rigas Satiksme is planning to purchase new electric buses, according to information posted on the website of the Procurement Monitoring Bureau.
The estimated contract price is EUR 34.3 million. The first bidding round will close on October 21.
The contract will be awarded to the technically and economically most advantageous bid. The winning bidder will have to manufacture and deliver to Riga 35 electric buses and spare parts, Rigas Satiksme representative Baiba Bartasevica-Feldmane informed LETA.
After that Rigas Satiksme could place an additional order for the delivery of another 17 electric buses and spare parts. The company plans to use co-financing from the European Union's Cohesion Fund for the purchase of the electric buses.
The term of the contract is five years, plus the warranty period.
Over the next five to seven years, Rigas Satiksme will have to replace at least 255-260 buses with diesel engines. They are already obsolete, and at least some of them will have to be replaced by electric buses, the company explained.
Rigas Satiksme's revenue amounted to EUR 182.9 million in 2020, which is EUR 25.9 million less than in 2019. Expenditures stood at EUR 181 million, down by EUR 19.1 million on 219.
