RIGA - Riga plans to allocate EUR 700,000 for the organization of the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships in the capital, according to the agenda of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee of the Riga City Council.
On Thursday, December 15, the members of the committee plan to decide on support for the Ice Hockey World Championships, allocating a co-financing of EUR 700,000.
570,000 euros are intended for covering organization expenses, 100,000 euros for promoting of the city of Riga during the tournament, and 30,000 euros for public transport services for transporting teams.
The final decision on municipal support for the championship must be made by the Riga City Council.
As reported, the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships will take place in Riga and Tampere from May 12 to 28.
Riga will host one group stage, as well as two quarterfinals matches.
