RIGA - Representatives of the Foreign Ministries of Latvia and Azerbaijan discussed the importance of the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia for stability and development in the region during political consultations that took place in Riga.
The political consultations were co-chaired by the Under Secretary of State, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andzejs Vilumsons, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Khalaf Khalafov.
As LETA was told at the Latvian Foreign Ministry, the agenda of the meeting covered bilateral relations between the countries and their cooperation in international organizations, as well as the war launched by Russia on Ukraine and its impacts on European and global security. The situation in the South Caucasus region was also discussed.
The diplomats underlined the importance of the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia for stability and development in the region. They noted the European Union's (EU) constructive role in seeking a solution to the conflict.
The political consultations of the Foreign Ministries took place as part of strategic dialogue envisaged in the joint declaration on the establishment of strategic partnership between Latvia and Azerbaijan signed by the Presidents of the two countries in 2017, the Foreign Ministry said.
