RIGA - Riga City Council member Maris Micerevskis has informed the Saeima Presidium that he agrees to temporary take over the lawmaker's mandate of Marija Golubeva (For Development/For) who has been appointed interior minister, LETA learned.

After her appointment to the post of interior minister, Golubeva promised to renounce her lawmaker's mandate once the For Development/For group in Saeima elects a new chairperson. Micerevskis is next in line to take up Golubeva's seat in the parliament. A year ago, however, he refused to accept a lawmaker's mandate.

Previously, Micerevskis told LETA that if he is offered a lawmaker's mandate now he will accept it as it considers it to be his duty. Micerevskis explained that when MP Daniels Pavluts (For Development/For) was offered the post of health minister, he refused to become an MP because he did not want to hamper the replacing of a bad health minister.

Micerevskis also indicated that he would be ready to join the Saeima group of his former political party (For Development of Latvia), but if he remains an unaffiliated MP, he will back the government coalition on crucial decisions.
