RIGA - Rattling through the Old Town, cruising along the new bike lanes on Elizabetes and Dzirnavu streets, rushing alongside motorized traffic on Vansu tilts and yes, occasionally running a red light – now that the sun is shining again we can encounter a cyclist around every corner in Riga. The Latvian capital is slowly becoming a bicycle city, where more and more people use bikes for daily urban transportation. Last week, Riga Bike Week celebrated this fact, but also called attention to some of the problems that surround cycling in Latvia, and Riga specifically.
