RIGA - Residents of Riga owe EUR 12.3 million in unpaid heating bills to Rigas Siltums heating utility, the company’s spokeswoman Agnete Busta told LETA.

In her words, the situation with heating debts is dynamic and changes every day as payments are made constantly. The heating debts usually shrink to the minimum ahead of each heating season. The debts grow during each season and are gradually paid off by the next heating season, the Rigas Stiltums representative said.

In mid-March 2016, residents of Riga had run a EUR 10.8 million debt in unpaid heating bills.

Rigas Siltums is one of the key heat suppliers in Riga as 77 percent of its output is used for heating and hot water supply to residential houses in Riga. The city's heating network is 900 kilometers long, and Rigas Siltums owns 75 percent of it.
