Punishment for those involved in organizing illegal migration is too lenient - Rinkevics

RIGA - The current policy of punishment for persons involved in organizing illegal migration is too lenient, stressed Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics, who on Tuesday visited the eastern border of Latvia and State Border Guard units in Latgale.

According to presidential spokesman Martins Dregeris, the President visited the Krivanda Border Guard Unit, the Opoli Border Guard Unit and the Robeznieki Border Guard Unit.

During his visit, Rinkevics was acquainted with the situation on the border, the daily work of border guards and border infrastructure, as well as discussed issues related to national and regional security and border strengthening.

The President noted that the delay in the construction of the eastern border of the is inexcusable, and therefore he expects all responsible institutions to take active measures. Rinkevics expressed his determination to raise this issue on a regular basis with the responsible officials.
