RIGA - A warning issued by the Prosecutor General's Office to the For Stability party is an act of political retaliation against the party, believes For Stability leader Aleksejs Roslikovs.
As reported, the Prosecutor General's Office has completed a probe into whether activities of For Stability comply with the requirements of the Law on Political Parties, and issued a warning to the party.
Roslikovs claims that he has never acted against the state of Latvia or the Latvian language. He believes that the Prosecutor General's Office is accusing him of expressing subjective opinions about the war in Ukraine and the situation of Russian-speaking residents in Latvia.
Roslikovs emphasizes that he is being accused of expressing an unfounded opinion, however, a subjective opinion does not need to be substantiated.
Roslikovs also claims that he has not been found guilty of any criminal acts against the sovereignty of Latvia, the people of Latvia or the state language.
The politician believes that the Prosecutor Office's decision is political retaliation against the party by prohibiting For Stability from speaking about matters that are important to it.
The decision of the Prosecutor General's Office will be assessed by the beginning of February, said Roslikovs. Legally, it is not possible to appeal the decision, only to comply or not comply with it. If For Stability does not comply with the Prosecutor Office's decision, the party will have to be dissolved.
As reported, the warning has been issued because the Prosecutor's Office has identified violations of the provisions of paragraphs 4 and 5 of Section 7 of the Law on Political Parties. These provisions stipulate that parties are prohibited in their activities from taking action against the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Latvia or other democratic countries, from expressing or disseminating proposals for violent amendment of the state structure of the Republic of Latvia or another democratic country, from encouraging not to comply with the laws if it endangers national security, public safety or order, from propagating violence or terrorism, from popularizing war, from carrying out acts directed towards triggering national hatred or enmity, from praising or encouraging the committing of criminal offences.
Parties are also prohibited in their activities from providing support, including informative support, to the persons or countries which undermine or endanger territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence or constitutional structure of democratic countries.
The Prosecutor's Office has concluded that activities of For Stability, through divisive messages expressed by individual members of the party, are aimed at inciting ethnic hatred, and that the party in its activities has been providing information and propaganda support for Russia.
The party has been instructed to eliminate the violations by February 8, 2026: to delete the information referred to in the warning on social networks and to revise in general the content posted on For Stability's social media accounts to ensure that it complies with the regulations on activities of political parties. The Prosecutor's Office urges the party to take measures to ensure that no further messages are disseminated or actions are taken that violate provisions of the Law on Political Parties.
LETA also reported, the party's leader, Aleksejs Roslikovs has come under the scrutiny of law enforcement authorities. At the end of 2025, the Prosecutor's Office handed over to Riga City Court a criminal case against Riga City Council member, For Stability leader and former Saeima member Roslikovs, charged with inciting national and ethnic hatred.
