STOCKHOLM – Sweden will not reopen an investigation into the 1994 sinking of the ferry M/S Estonia, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said on Thursday.
According to the prosecutor, nothing has come to light that gives reason to assume that a crime has been committed.
In November 2020, the Prosecution Authority received a request that the closed preliminary investigation should be resumed or a new one started.
The Estonia ferry sank on the night of Sept. 28, 1994, while traveling from Tallinn to Stockholm. 852 people died in the disaster and 137 were rescued.
