President to meet with heads of EU institutions and NATO in Brussels

RIGA - President Edgars Rinkevics will visit Brussels, Belgium, this Wednesday and Thursday for meetings with heads of European Union (EU) institutions and NATO, his communications advisor Martins Dregeris informed LETA. 

During the working visit, the president is scheduled to meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis (New Unity) and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. 

The talks with the EU officials are expected to focus on continued support to Ukraine and the EU's enlargement policy, the situation in the Middle East, as well as migration-related challenges, paying special attention to the situation on Latvia's eastern border. 

Also on the working visit's agenda is a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to discuss the implementation of decisions taken at the NATO Vilnius Summit, particularly regarding the strengthening of allied presence in Latvia, provision of continued support to Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, and Europe's emerging security challenges.
