President Nauseda picks candidate for central banker

President Gitanas Nausėda on March 23 nominated Gediminas Šimkus, a board member of the central Bank of Lithuania (LCB), to lead the central bank. The candidate needs the Seimas' approval. The term of the Bank of Lithuania's incumbent board chairman Vitas Vasiliauskas expires on April 7. Šimkus joined the central bank in 2002 and has been consistently going up the career ladder within the bank for the past 18 years. He was appointed a board member in September.
