President Gitanas Nauseda has expressed his disappointment after EU leaders failed in mid-October to invite North Macedonia and Albania to start membership negotiations. His comments came in response to the end of Brussels talks on possible expansion to Western Balkans without any agreement. Diplomats say France was against the invitation of both countries, and Denmark and The Netherlands would have agreed only to the invitation of North Macedonia, but not Albania.
