President Levits embarks on visit to Japan to attend enthronement ceremony for Emperor Naruhito

RIGA - President Egils Levits today is embarking on a visit to Japan where he is scheduled to attend the enthronement ceremony for Emperor Naruhito, the president's agenda shows.

The official events of the visit will begin on Monday. Levits will visit Tokyo and attend the enthronement ceremony for Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako on Tuesday, as well as meet with several officials, LETA was told at the president's office.

During his working visit, Levits will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Hirofumi Nakasone, chairman of the Japanese-Latvian parliamentary friendship group, and Tamio Ishibashi, Latvia's honorary consul in Osaka.  

At the Latvian embassy in Tokyo, President Levits plans to meet with representatives of Japan's Latvian community, Japan's choir Gaisma and students of the Latvian language.

In Japan, Levits will also meet with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis and visit Waseda University. 

First Lady Andra Levite will be accompanying the president on his trip to Japan. 

President Levits' visit will last from today till October 25. Since Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece (National Alliance) is also on a foreign visit, Vice Speaker Dagmara Beitnere-Le Galla will be standing for the president during his visit to Japan.
