President favours making conscription permanent

VILNIUS - Mandatory military service in Lithuania should be permanent and not last only for five years, the country’s President Dalia Grybauskaite believes. “In the military area, I am still of an opinion that Lithuania should in the long-term have a mixed ary, i.e., conscription should be continued. A conscript army together with a professional army should not be an exception and should be a permanent thing and not periodic. I mean Lithuania should have a mixed army.
