TALLINN – On Tuesday, President Alar Karis appointed three new members to the government at the proposal of Prime Minister Kristen Michal.
After taking their oath of office before the Riigikogu, Erkki Keldo will begin his term as Minister of Energy and Environment, Liina Vahtras as Minister of Economy and Industry, and Martin Herem as Minister of Defence.
Prior to the appointment, President Karis met with all three minister-designates. They discussed Estonia's energy production and forestry, the economic situation, youth employment, the state budget, and national security.
"I wish you strength, resolve, and success. These are challenging times, and elections are approaching. Balancing the daily responsibilities of your work with the election process will certainly not be easy—it requires poise, well-considered decisions, and dedication. For this, I wish you wisdom, resilience, and a continued drive to act," said President Alar Karis.
The President of the Republic dismissed the former Minister of Defence, Hanno Pevkur, and the Minister of Energy and Environment, Andres Sutt, from their posts.
