VILNIUS – Vehicles are no longer being checked at the Lithuanian-Polish border as Polish farmers have ended their protest launched last Friday, a spokesman for the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) said on Thursday.

"The message is that the protest there has ended," Giedrius Misutis told BNS.

The organizers said last week that the protest would last seven days.

Misutis said there had been no problems at the Lithuanian border during the nearly week-long protest.

"We can say that everything went smoothly," he added.

At protesting farmers' request, Polish officials last Friday started checking trucks at the former Kalvarija-Budzisko border checkpoint to see what they were transporting from Lithuania to Poland, amid fears that some Ukrainian grain from Lithuania could be returning to Poland.

Around 6,000 trucks cross the border at the former checkpoint daily.
