RIGA - Several hundred well wishers took part in the welcoming ceremony for the Latvian Paralympic Team at the Freedom Monument on Monday evening, LETA observed.
The Latvian paralympians arrived in Riga on Monday evening and reached the Freedom Monument by bus about 15 minutes before midnight. The well wishers gathered at the monument and were able to watch the athletes' arrival live on Latvian Television on a large screen located at the monument.
The Paris Paralympic Games took place from August 28 to September 8.
Two gold medals in the Paris Paralympic Games were won by Latvian equestrian rider Rihards Snikus on his horse King of the Dance, Diana Krumina became Paralympic champion in the javelin, and Aigars Apinis won silver in the discus.
Latvia was represented at the Paris Paralympic Games by Apinis, Krumiņa, Emils Dzilna and Raivo Maksims (all athletics), Oskars Gailiss (cycling), Jurijs Semjonovs (swimming), Margita Kanopka (shooting) and Snikus (equestrian).
Paralympic athlete Edgars Bergs had also qualified for the Games, but withdrew for health reasons.
