RIGA - Over 1,500 trucks were waiting in lines at three crossing points on Latvia's borders with Russia and Belarus on Sunday, the State Border Guard informed.

The longest queues were reported on the Latvian-Belarusian border, with 600 trucks waiting at the Paterniekie crossing already since Friday evening, December 1.

On the Latvian-Russian border, around 590 trucks were waiting at the Terehova crossing and around 390 more at the Grebneva crossing.

Long truck lines at the border crossings have been reported since early November.

In recent weeks, several groups of illegal migrants have been attempting to enter the European Union (EU) through Estonia's northeastern border in Narva.

Finland has also closed its crossing points on the Russian border to ward off illegal migrants.
