One of the world’s best orchestras, The Budapest Festival Orchestra, are in Vilnius on June 7 featuring pianist Denes Varjon and conducted by Ivan Fisher. Amongst the music performed will be Stravinsky’s “Le jeux des cartes,” Liszt’s Concert for piano and orchestra No. 2, and Dvorak’s Symphony No.8. As well as performing in leading venues throughout the world, The Budapest Festival Orchestra remain faithful to their home country, often touring through villages in Hungary.
On June 15, the Hector Berlioz concert features Italian soloist Gustavo Porta and the LNOBT chorus, with French conductor Cyril Diederich.
“Don Carlo,” Verdi’s tense, dark opera which premiered in March to high critical acclaim, concludes the Vilnius Festival on June 18. Highly modernised, gripping, and chillingly descriptive, director Gunter Kramer’s inventive approach compacts the weighty long opera to a manageable length to great effect. It is a fitting end to what has been a highly successful season for the opera house before it enters its summer break to prepare for the autumn.
