RIGA - Last year, the Child Protection Center reviewed 1,741 reports about possible violations of children's rights, submitted by private individuals and legal entities, which is 49 percent more than in 2024, the center's deputy head Valentina Gorbunova told reporters on Monday.
These reports were received at the Child Protection Center's Service for Monitoring Children's Rights. The reports were submitted by various institutions, including educational institutions, shopping centers, orphanages and other institutions.
At the same time, 492 reports were received from children themselves on the Child Protection Center's hotline and through correspondence with the center's specialists on social networks.
Last year, the Child Protection Center also assessed 156 cases of suspected physical or emotional abuse of a child at state or municipal institutions. In 29 cases, perpetrators were imposed a penalty.
The Child Protection Center's deputy head Anda Sauluna points out that information circulating in the public that the center's hotline receives only one or two calls a day is not true. Last year, the center provided 8,437 telephone consultations.
The Child Protection Center also provided support for children through social network chats in 1,264 cases last year.
