Number of needy residents continues to decrease in Latvia

RIGA - The proportion of residents living below the poverty line is steadily dropping in Latvia, and was at 2.26 per cent in July, according to the Welfare Ministry's data. In June, this figure stood at 2.37 per cent. In July, 44,306 residents were listed as living in poverty, which is 2,095 fewer than the previous month. The number of needy residents has been diminishing since the beginning of this year, when it was 2.6 per cent. The lowest number of needy residents in Latvia was recorded in July 2009, when 43,220 were registered...
