RIGA - Due to Covid-19 infections, students of 122 schools in 32 municipalities in Latvia are learning from home this week, but the number of such Covid-19-stricken schools has decreased by 146 from last week, Jana Veinberga, a representative of the State Education Quality Service (IKVD), informed LETA.

The number of municipalities where schools are affected by Covid-19 cases has reduced from 41 to 32. There are a total of 43 municipalities in Latvia.

In total, this school year started in 672 education institutions.

IKVD said that most often decisions on transition to remote learning have been made by education institutions in the capital city Riga and Latvia's second largest city Daugavpils.

As reported, in the school year 2021/2022, only students and teaching staff with interoperable Covid-19 certificates confirming vaccination against or recovery from the virus, as well as persons with negative Covid-19 test results are allowed into classrooms.
