Not much change in leadership of many local governments throughout the country after elections

RIGA - According to provisional results from the Central Election Commission, there has been not much change in the leadership of many local governments throughout the country after the municipal elections.

Out of 119 constituencies, over 70 will likely see their current chairpersons remain in power.

For example, the mayor of Rezekne Aleksandrs Bartasevics (Harmony) is expected to stay on as mayor, as well as Aivars Lembergs (For Latvia and Ventspils) in Ventspils, Andris Ravins (Greens/Farmers) in Jelgava, Janis Baiks (For Valmiera and Vidzeme) in Valmiera, Gunars Upenieks (Greens/Farmers) in Kraslava, and Janis Rozenbergs (Unity) in Cesis.

The municipal leadership is also not expected to change in such regions as Ilukste, Daugavpils, Karsava, Vilaka, Zilupe, Broceni, Grobina, Kuldiga, Pavilosta, Priekule, Skrunda, Ventspils, Rundale, Tervete, Olaine, Valka, Smiltene, Amata, Babete, Koceni, Salacgriva and others.

Meanwhile, there are about 30 constituencies where it is believed that a new leadership will take over.
