Nitrotol OÜ to Start Ammunition Production in Ämari Mini Defence Industry Park

As a result of a selection process conducted by the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI), Nitrotol OÜ will begin producing ammunition at the Ämari military base in Estonia. Production is set to start in the spring of 2025.

Three companies participated in the selection process: Nitrotol OÜ, ESTDEFIN Production OÜ, and Estonian Ammunition Plant OÜ. A six-member committee evaluated the proposals based on the operational plan, facility usage fees, company revenue, the Estonian Defence Forces' needs for the product, and contractual product coverage.

"All three companies presented realistic and reliable operational plans, but Nitrotol OÜ's proposal stood out for its thoroughness, thoughtfulness, and transparency," said Tambet Tõnisson, Head of State Assets Division at ECDI. "Their operational plan and responses to additional questions convinced us that the company has carried out sufficient preparatory work to deliver results within the promised timeframe," Tõnisson added.

Ammunition production at the Ämari military base will begin in spring 2025. Simultaneously, progress will continue to establish a larger defence industry park.

"The current security situation demands swift action to develop Estonia's national defence and defence industry," said Hanno Pevkur, Minister of Defence. "The Ämari Mini Defence Industry Park allows us to start ammunition production in Estonia in the near future. Additionally, preparations for a larger defence industry park are already underway. These steps strengthen Estonia's defence capability, create new jobs, and contribute to the national economy," the minister added.

As the winner of the selection process, Nitrotol OÜ will be granted access to an 8,900-square-meter area in the Ämari military base. ECDI will ensure the construction of protective barriers and communication lines required for starting production. Nitrotol OÜ is committed to building temporary production facilities and equipping them with the necessary machinery.
