RIGA - The XXVIII Nationwide Latvian Song and Dance Festival will take place from June 30 to July 9, 2028, in Riga, according to the Culture Ministry's decree.
An annotation to the document available on the web portal of draft legislation indicates that the exact venue of the quinquennial event will be chosen after the results of the design and implementation competitions for artistic concepts are announced in the third quarter of 2026, and the most suitable locations for the other festive events are evaluated by the third quarter of 2027.
The annotation explains that the schedule of the festival needs to be confirmed in order to allow preparations to begin as early as possible, including the establishment of a steering committee and a plan for the week of festivities, with venues in Riga approved by a government decree.
It has already been reported that the Latvian National Centre for Culture (LNCC) has announced a call for proposals for the development and implementation of an artistic concept for five concerts of the XXVIII Nationwide Latvian Song and Dance Festival.
The design competitions are being held for the Grand Concert of Choirs, the Grand Concert of Latvian Stage Dance, the Concert of Brass Bands, the Concert of Kokle Music, and the Closing Concert.
