Scandinavian Airlines System said it intended to launch a number of lower-price routes to southern Europe and restore Oslo-New York service in the summer of 2003.

Planned capacity on new routes to southern Europe will correspond to four aircraft, while the Oslo-New York route will be operated using a Boeing 767 aircraft, SAS said in a statement.

The airline also said it would reassign an additional 767 aircraft onto its Stockholm-Bangkok route during the winter of 2002/2003.

"The increased utilization of aircraft, combined with a simpler product, makes it possible to open a number of new destinations in southern Europe at lower prices," the statement said.

A senior SAS vice president declined however to elaborate on destinations or the price level of the new routes.
