Latvian man attempts to smuggle 24 tons of cheese across Ukraine, Russia border

A Latvian man has attempted to smuggle over 24 tons of cheese into Russia from Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced on Sunday.

The man drove a Mercedes truck registered in Latvia when he was detained.

According to the documents, the truck was carrying chipboards valued at more than USD 2,000. The border guards had suspicions about the contents of the cargo and its documentation, and decided to check the truck

The border guards eventually found 24 tons of cheese in the truck, Interfax news reports.
