Straujuma set for PM role amid talks in Latvia

Coalition parties in Latvia support Laimdota Straujuma to stay on as prime minister in the next government amid talks over who will form the new government.

Talks continue among three parties over who would form the new coalition in Latvia after they won a majority of votes in national elections in Sunday.

Speaking to the press today, Straujuma said that if the government is led by a Unity party prime minister, then the party will also head the Finance Ministry and the Foreign Ministry.

The head of the Greens/Farmers' group at Saeima Augusts Brigmanis said his party supports Straujuma to stay on as PM. At the same time, he also confirmed that an agreement has been made to allow the Greens/Farmers head the Agriculture Ministry, Welfare Ministry, as well as Defense Ministry, with the current ministers staying on in all three of the ministries, LETA reports.

Co-chairman of All for Latvia!-For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK Raivis Dzintars said talks of the division of posts continues among coalition partners. He also confirmed that his party supports Straujuma's candidacy as PM.
