A car has been spotted in Riga, Latvia flying the flag of the pro Russia Donetsk People's Republic.
Kiev has been conducting a special military operation in the southeast of Ukraine since mid-April. The fighting intensified after Donetsk and Luhansk regions proclaimed themselves independent people’s republics in May. Hundreds of people, including civilians have died in both regions over the past months.
The controversial photo posted on mixnews.lv has led to an outpouring of comments on social media, with some supporting the drivers actions.
"Well done, I saw want a flag like that," says one comment on Facebook.
Another accused the driver of stirring more problems for Latvia. "Why engage in a provocation? In our country, the situation is not very good, this adds fuel to the fire."
A group of Latvian citizens announced last week they would be heading to Donetsk to join pro Russia rebels in the conflict.
The leader of Latvia’s For Native Language party Vladimir Linderman told RIA Novosti on Tuesday that a small group was heading to the region.
