The flag raised on July 6 in Vilnius once again united Lithuania and its people as a nation, said Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite.

The annual flag raising ceremony was held in Simonas Daukantas Square as part of the Lithuanian State Day, reports ELTA.

"The Lithuanian flag is not only the sign of the country but also a symbol of every citizen. It is a symbol that unites us to work towards a common goal and promotes a sense of unity. These three colors represent the country's identity and individuality," said the president.

Grybauskaite emphasized the importance of working for the benefit of Lithuania. She believes that honesty, indifference and dedicating some time in order to help the community should become the biggest values.

The president extended her greetings to everyone on State Day and urged them to be proud of Lithuania's history.

The flag raising ceremony was attended by Parliament Speaker Loreta Grauziniene and Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius and wife.

As a tradition, the historical canon fired three shots dedicated to King Mindaugas, the state of Lithuania and the people of Lithuania. After the ceremony an event was held in Vilnius Cathedral.
