Latvia's top ranked tennis player Ernests Gulbis defeated Estonian Jurgen Zopp 7-6 (9:7), 7-5, 7-6 (12:10) in the first-round match of the Wimbledon Championship on Monday.
Gulbis has earned 45 ATP ranking points for advancing to the second round of the tournament.
At the moment, Gulbis is ranked 10th in the ATP rankings, and is seeded 12th at Wimbledon. The 26-year-old Zopp is currently ranked 272nd in the world.
This is the seventh time Gulbis has been seeded at a Grand Slam tournament and this is also his highest ever seed.
The Latvian had his best ever performance at Wimbledon last year, advancing to the third round of the tournament.
In the second round, Gulbis will play Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky, who is ranked 90th in the ATP rankings currently.
