Former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus is in the hospital, and has been moved to the intensive care unit, reported Lithuanian TV channel LNK on Thursday evening, March 13.

"I can confirm this, though intensive care does not mean [Adamkus] is in very serious condition. The decision was made since we needed to monitor the work of his heart; therefore, we are here," said Adamkus' personal doctor in an interview.

The doctor refrained from commenting on the ex-president's health and making conclusions while the patient is still undergoing the treatment.

"I can say that [the condition of the ex-president] is satisfactory," he said.

Adamkus served as Lithuanian president from 1998 to 2003 and from 2004 to 2009.
