The Bloomberg financial news agency has calculated that thanks to the four Olympic medals won at the Sochi Olympics, Latvia is in second place in the Olympic medal standings when comparing medals won to gross domestic product (GDP).

Slovenia is in first place in the medal-to-GDP standings, as it won two gold, two silver and four bronze medals at the Olympics.

Meanwhile, Russia, which won the highest number of gold medals and overall medals at the Olympics, is in 12th place when comparing medals won to GDP.

Furthermore, when comparing medals won to a country's total population, Latvia is in fourth place, behind Norway, Slovenia and Austria, but ahead of such countries as Sweden, the Netherlands and Russia.

The Sochi Olympic games were the most successful Olympics in Latvia's history, as Latvian athletes won two silver and two bronze medals.
