Last victim of Riga supermarket collapse tragedy released

The last victim of the Riga supermarket collapse tragedy - a Maxima check-out cashier - has been released from Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital, reports LETA.

The cashier sustained heavy injuries in the November 21 supermarket collapse. He spent more than six hours under the rubble and was in a very serious condition. Medics fought for his life several days, said a Riga hospital spokesman Dace Karklina.

He underwent six surgeries which considerably improved his condition, allowing to continue his treatment in rehabilitation establishments, said Karklina.

A total of 54 people, including three firefighters, died and scores were injured after a Maxima supermarket in Riga's Zolitude neighborhood caved-in on Nov. 21, 2013.
