Latvian President Andris Berzins has called on the country's new government members to work as a team.
"The first session of the new government is historic, since, for the first time in Latvia's history, it is chaired by a woman," emphasized the president.
"I call on the new government to work as a team, exercising its executive power and proving that honest, responsible and professional actions are possible in politics," added Berzins.
Berzins also promised to cooperate with the new government, discussing and exchanging opinions before important decisions are made by the government for these decisions to be aimed at raising the nation's prosperity.
He admitted that it is a great responsibility to head the government during these complicated times in politics, especially taking into account that the government is expected to work constructively and without pre-election rhetoric.
The president also thanked the former and new ministers.Latvia's Saeima today confirmed the new Laimdota Straujuma (Unity) government and she became Latvia's first ever female prime minister.
