A baby boy has been abandoned in Riga hospital and not for the first time either.

Staff members at the Children's Clinical University Hospital were shocked when they found the baby in their 'baby box' on Saturday, Jan. 18.

The controversial baby box was placed in the hospital due to the high number of babies being abandoned. Parents are able to leave the newly borns anonymously if they're not able to look after them.

A total of 19 babies have been abandoned in the baby box since it was first installed at the hospital in 2009.

The baby, who is several days old, weighs 4.19 kilograms and is in good health, doctors say.
