A Latvian police department chief has been rushed to hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the stomach.
Igors Trafimovs, Rezekne Police Department Chief was handling his own personal weapon without its safety on when it fired in his pocket.
Later, Trafimovs was immediately rushed to hospital for surgery where he's in a stable but serious condition.
According to the police, the pistol that went off was the officer's personal weapon whilst the incident happened in his own apartment. An investigation into the incident is under way by the State Police's Internal Affairs Department.
