Over 40,000 books for libraries in villages and small towns have been collected as part of a Christmas campaign.

The annual Christmas Campaign of Books collects books to distribute to schools and libraries in Lithuania. Belarus and Poland.

The campaign held for the third time broke its own record as it was joined by residents, foreign embassies, culture institutions, business and public organizations, publishers and writers.

"The book remains to be valuable. It unites us and inspires us to share the spirit of kindness, to take care of our community, native language and Lithuania,"  said President Dalia Grybauskaite, who has backed the campaign.

"It is important that the new books will reach culture center's in the most distant parts of the country. I thank you all for active support in this campaign and your help to renew the libraries in villages and small towns."

Last year over 25,000 books were collected during the campaign.
