Latvia GDP per capita fourth lowest in Europe

The gross domestic product (GDP) per capita expressed in terms of purchasing power standards in Latvia is the fourth lowest in the EU, new staistics show.

Eurostat number show how Latvia had 64 percent of the average GDP per capita in the European Union last year.

Bulgaria registered the lowest GDP per capita in the EU last year - 47 percent of the EU average, Romania - 49 percent of the EU average, while Croatia - 62 percent.

Lithuania had the eighth lowest GDP per capita in the EU in 2012 - 78 percent of the EU average, while Estonia had the seventh lowest - 71 percent of the EU average.

Luxembourg had the highest GDP per capita in the EU in 2012 - 263 percent of the EU average, followed by Austria - 130 percent of the EU average, and Ireland - 129 percent of the EU average.
