On Dec. 12 the opposition of Lithuania’s Seimas once again failed in including the issue of legal immunity for MP Viktor Uspaskich onto its agenda, reports ELTA. Thirty-nine MPs voted in favor of the proposal from Andrius Kubilius, the leader of the opposition, 31 MPs voted against, while 44 MPs abstained.

According to Parliament Speaker Loreta Grauzininie, the Seimas will wait for the conclusion of the Seimas Commission for Ethics and Procedures.

Since Nov. 19 the Seimas has failed to set up a temporary investigation commission that should decide if it will consent to prosecuting, detaining or otherwise restricting the freedom of MP Uspaskich.

Prosecutor General Darius Valys turned to the Seimas requesting to revoke the legal immunity of the member of Parliament and leader of the Labor Party Uspaskich.

Vilnius prosecutors are carrying out an investigation into Uspaskich's public statements about judges and courts that heard the Labor Party's fraudulent bookkeeping case.
