Germany's first ambassador to Latvia after the restoration of independence, Hagen von der Wenge Graf Lambsdorff on Dec. 4 presented to the Latvian Ambassador to Germany Elita Kuzma two Latvian translations of the Bible, dated first half of the 19th century, as his family's gift to the Latvian nation, reports LETA.

In accepting the valuable gift, the ambassador said the cultural heritage of Latvia included Latvian ethnographic heritage as well as that of communities living in Latvia, including the Baltic Germans that have contributed immensely to the cultural heritage of Latvia.

The ambassador also thanked the former ambassador, on behalf of the Latvian National Library Director Andris Vilks, for the gift and for his continuing support for the Latvian National Library, and invited him to visit Riga in 2014, when the city will be the European capital of culture, to participate in the opening of the new National Library building and other events.
