How to celebrate independence day in Latvia

Nov. 18 marks Independence day in Latvia. Tonnes of events have been planned for you to enjoy.

In Riga the celebrations begin with a parade and laying of flowers at the Freedom Monument.

A parade of the National Armed Forces takes place in the afternoon at the 11th November Embankment. In the evening there are torchlight processions, and the celebration in Riga ends with magnificent fireworks over the River Daugava.

Don't forget that public transport is also free of charge.

Here's a few events to enjoy during Latvias most important public holiday.

On Nov. 16,  male choir Frachori perform at the Riga Culture and Folk Centre. An epic dance performance mixed with some ethnic music will showcase later in the day at the Ķīpsala Exhibition Hall.

On Nov. 17, The Riga Dom Cathedral Boys Choir will give a free performance at the Great Hall of Culture Palace, Ziemeblazma.

An ecumenical service kicks off proceedings on Nov. 18 at Riga Dome Cathedral. Later, Flowers will be laid at the Freedom Monument.

The official ceremony proceedings will be held at the Freedom Monument with performances from the Riga Chamber Choir and a speech by Latvian president, Andris Berzins.
