Prokopcuka places third in New York

Latvia’s marathon runner Jelena Prokopcuka placed third at the New York City Marathon on Nov. 3, reports LETA. Prokopcuka’s time was two hours, 27 minutes and 47 seconds.

Prokopcuka lost two minutes 40 seconds to the winner, Priscah Jeptoo of Kenya. Ethiopian runner Buzunesh Deba finished in second place.

This is the first time in five years that Prokopcuka participated in the New York City Marathon. She finished in first place in 2005 and 2006, and in third place in 2007.

Geoffrey Mutai won the marathon for the men’s race, clocking two hours, eight minutes and 23 seconds.
