Drink driving penalties too light say public

Seventy-nine percent of Latvian residents believe punishments for driving under the influence of alcohol should be increased, according to a survey carried out by the market, social and media research company TNS Latvia and the LNT television channel, reports LETA.

Meanwhile, 15 percent of economically active residents of Latvia do not think that the punishments for drunk driving should be increased, while six percent did not have a point of view on this matter.

Furthermore, 51 percent of resident believe that drivers should have their licenses revoked for life if they have cause a traffic accident while under the influence.
