The web site of the Estonian Defense Ministry was hit by a cyber attack at round 9.30 a.m. on Nov. 1, while the rest of the ministry’s IT systems work fine, reports Public Broadcasting.
The ministry was so far unable to say what or who caused the attack, but an announcement was made public under the name of ‘Anonymous Ukraine’ that claims that they are the reason the Web site is down.
“We want NATO leaders to hear us. We don’t want to be servants of NATO. Ukrainians don’t wish to die, protecting the interests of NATO states,” stated the posting.
A Defense Ministry spokesperson said that the attack took place only against the exterior Web site and stressed that the IT systems in the ministry’s governance sphere work.
“We are in information exchange with all other respective authorities and do everything possible to get the Web site working again,” said the spokesperson.
